tAll during the month of June I have been exploring and posting to my various blogs info from GenealogyBank. I have really found great items of interest in the Historical Newspaper collection. I realized today that I had not yet done this for Blount County. One thing I have come to appreciate is how papers inlarger cities would have news items from nearby communities.
GenealogyBank has Knoxville newspapers from the late 1800s. They have the Daily Journal and Journal and Tribune from April 1888-December 1896. While coverage may not be complete for all this time period, there is some good information to be found.
For example, in the Maryville Notes section of the July 9, 1891 issue of said paper, I located this obituary for Mrs. Laura S. Bartlett. She was the wife of the late Rev. Alexander Bartlett and their son was a pastor as well – in Dayton, Tennessee.

When I found this, I looked up Mrs. Bartlett in the Death Records Database and found an entry for her as Mrs. L.M. Bartlett. Her death notice was published in the July 8, 1891 issue of the Maryville Times. So, I’ll be adding this information to the datbase as well. Maybe one of her descendants will be looking for it one day.
