More newspaper abstracts

Glenn Teffeteller is a very busy man!

In November, the site coordinator for Monroe County emailed me to let me know that Glenn had abstracted some old Blount County newpspapers, but that the abstracts were sitting over on the Monroe County site. She contacted me to find out if I were interested in moving them over to the Blount County site - of course I was!

So, several weeks later, I have now added them to the Blount County Newspaper page. The abstracts cover time periods from 1832-1905 and include the following:

Funeral Home Listing Correction

A Blount County GenWeb user, Don McNeilly,  has emailed me a correction to the Miller Funeral Home Records.  The correction is as follows:

McNeilly, William Kelley - 1871-1954 has a Joseph McNeilly listed as his father and Minerva Cook as his mother. The user informs me that Minerva Cook was only married once, to a Thomas McNeilly, and that when she died in 1951, her husband remarried to a woman named Mary Emaline Boring.  Thomas and Minerva were Don’s  great-grandparents.

Blount County Deaths 1881

A researcher has submitted to me photocopied pages of a microfilm of Blount County Vital Statistics, 1881-1882 that she accessed from the Blount County Public Library (Microfilm #137).  She sent me 5 pages and the first page was just deaths. However, I can’t read most of the names! I applaud those who really work to transcribe microfilmed documents as the handwriting can be really difficult to read. That said, I could make out clearly about 3 or 4 deaths:

• Charles Murr - died 23 Oct 1881 - white,  male, age 3 years, 6 months and 3 days old. Died in the 7th district, cause of death - diptheria.
• Nancy Harris Gray - died 6 Aug 1881 - white, female, married,  age 74, died of rheumatitis
• Ezra Henshaw Lee - died 5 Nov 1881, male, white, single, age 32, died in the 4th district.

R.C. Tuck gets arm caught

Little R.C. Tuck, son of Mr. & Mrs. Raymond C. Tuck, is improving after getting his arm caught in the washing machine wringer. Little R. C. was treated at Blount Memorial Hospital.
